Destination Wedding Photography in Puerto Rico
If you're considering Puerto Rico for your destination wedding, we're already excited for you. There's something special about bringing your favorite people together on an island where beautiful scenery, incredible food, warm hospitality, and rich culture are all part of the experience.
But as you begin planning, you'll probably realize that choosing your wedding photographer involves more than finding someone whose pictures you love.
You want someone who understands the island, knows how to work with different lighting and environments, and most importantly, understands what you want to remember about your wedding day.
After photographing weddings throughout Puerto Rico, we've learned that the most meaningful galleries aren't simply a collection of beautiful portraits. They're a reflection of the entire experience.
Here are a few things we'd love for you to consider as you plan your wedding photography.
What makes Puerto Rico special for a destination wedding?
When it comes to destination wedding photography in Puerto Rico, one of the things we love most is the variety of settings available. You can have a celebration surrounded by historic architecture, exchange vows in a tropical garden, or host an elegant reception at a beautiful beachfront hotel.
Some locations offer a very different atmosphere from others:
Hacienda Siesta Alegre
Located outside the metropolitan area, Hacienda Siesta Alegre is another venue worth considering. Its gardens and architecture create a romantic atmosphere that feels distinctly Puerto Rican.
Hotel El Convento
Located in Old San Juan, this historic property has beautiful architectural details and an intimate atmosphere. It's a lovely setting for couples who appreciate history and character.
Antiguo Casino de Puerto Rico
If you're envisioning an elegant celebration, Antiguo Casino offers grand interiors and beautiful architectural elements.
Fairmont El San Juan Hotel
For couples who love the atmosphere of a tropical hotel wedding, Fairmont El San Juan offers a combination of elegant spaces and Caribbean surroundings.
Condado Vanderbilt Hotel
A timeless oceanfront venue combining classic Spanish Revival architecture with luxury, offering stunning seaside views and sophisticated event spaces.
Hacienda Karina
Nestled in lush greenery, this charming venue offers an open-air, rustic-chic setting ideal for couples looking for an intimate, nature-filled celebration.
Royal Isabela
Perched along dramatic oceanfront cliffs on the northwest coast, Royal Isabela provides breathtaking coastal views, manicured landscapes, and an exclusive, secluded atmosphere.
Villa de Zecheo
Located in Rincón, this luxury beachfront estate is perfect for intimate destination weddings with front-row sunset views over the ocean.
Each venue has its own personality, and your photography should reflect that rather than making every wedding look the same.
How do you choose the right wedding photographer?
We always encourage couples to look beyond Instagram highlights.
A photographer might have a beautiful selection of individual photographs, but what does an entire wedding gallery look like?
Ask to see complete galleries. Look at the getting-ready photographs, ceremony, family portraits, reception, and everything that happens in between.
You'll begin to understand how that photographer tells a story.
Here are a few other things worth considering:
Photography style: Do you connect with documentary, editorial, traditional, or cinematic imagery?
Experience: Has the photographer worked at venues similar to yours?
Communication: Do you feel comfortable asking questions and sharing your priorities?
Consistency: Does the quality and editing remain consistent throughout complete galleries?
Personal connection: Can you imagine having this person around you throughout your wedding day?
That last point matters more than people sometimes realize. Your photographer will be present during some very personal moments. You want someone whose presence feels comfortable.

"From the very first call we had with this incredible husband wife duo, my husband and I knew we had found something special. Their calm, warm, and genuinely happy energy came through immediately - this is exactly the kind of presence you want on your big day!! They have loads of experience and we felt very comfortable with them from the start." - Millicent & Juan
Documentary wedding photography: What does it actually mean?
We often describe our approach as photojournalistic because we love documenting moments as they naturally happen. Think about your partner seeing you for the first time, your parents' expressions during the ceremony, or your friends celebrating on the dance floor. Those moments don't need to be recreated. They simply need someone paying attention.
Of course, this doesn't mean we never direct photographs. We absolutely believe in creating beautiful portraits and making time for family photographs. It's about finding a balance.
We want you to have those thoughtful, editorial-inspired portraits while still having the freedom to enjoy your wedding without feeling like you're constantly being photographed.
What about the wedding timeline?
This is something we always recommend discussing before the wedding. A thoughtful photography timeline gives you room to enjoy the day while allowing enough time for the photographs that matter to you.
For example, consider:
How much time you'll need for getting-ready photographs.
Whether you want a first look.
How much time to reserve for couple portraits.
When family photographs will take place.
Whether you want photographs during cocktail hour.
How the reception schedule affects your photography coverage.
Puerto Rico's tropical weather and sunlight are also worth considering, especially for outdoor ceremonies and portraits. If you're working with a wedding planner, coordinating the photography timeline with them ahead of time can make a big difference.
A little about how we approach wedding photography
We've been photographing weddings since 2015, and one thing has remained consistent: people come first.
We love beautiful venues, thoughtful details, fashion, flowers, and all the elements that make a wedding visually interesting. But what makes us care about photography is knowing that these images will eventually become part of your family's history.
Jafet personally photographs and edits every wedding gallery. This allows us to maintain the artistic vision and consistency we want for every celebration. We also love getting to know our couples before the wedding. Understanding your priorities, the people who matter most, and the atmosphere you're creating helps us approach the day with a better understanding of your story.
